The teak wood has the highest oil content among all wood. The old growth teak has the higher oil content than teak wood harvested under 50 years of age (minimum usable teak wood needs at least 50 years). To show the oil content, a simple test is dropping the water.....with the high oil content, the wood would not absorb water for several minutes..... so, after 5 minutes, no water was absorbed....one indirect proof that the teak was probably coming from old growth...another indirect proof is when the furniture was made....if made prior to xxxx, then it was likely to be old growth teak...cause some time after that, the old growth teak was forbidden to be harvested from the producing countries...mainly Indonesia, Thailand....

This dining table and chairs were made from over 100 years old old growth teak, with oil content so high that water cannot penetrate it. See photo for detail. The photo was taken 5 minutes later after a significant amount of water was placed. No amount of water was absorbed.
